Round Rock proclaims May as Historic Preservation Month

Round Rock City Council has proclaimed May as National Preservation Month, when local preservation and civic organizations spotlight their preservation programs and heritage tourism.

The City of Round Rock was also presented with a check for $53,000 from non-profit Round Rock Preservation that was raised for the restoration of the City-owned Round Rock Stagecoach Inn. The City is currently performing restoration work necessary to reintegrate the inn as part of the Heritage Trail West project. Fundraising efforts for this project included an engraved brick campaign.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation established National Preservation Month in 1973 as an occasion for local preservation and civic organizations to spotlight preservation programs and heritage tourism. The City’s Historic Preservation Commission, nonprofits like the Williamson Museum, Round Rock Preservation, and the Old Settlers Association, skilled craftspeople and historic property owners all work to preserve the City of Round Rock’s history. This year, the City’s Historic Preservation Commission and partner organizations will shine a light on Round Rock’s “Old Town.”

Round Rock historic preservation groups will kick off a month of festivities starting with the Williamson Museum’s Pioneer Day on Saturday, May 4 at the Old Settlers Association, and students from Pierce Middle School will present their Round Rock history projects at a Lunch and Learn on May 13.
