Round Rock earns new transparency star for open government

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts announced that the City of Round Rock has earned the state’s newest transparency star, making it one of only eight cities in the state to have earned all possible transparency stars.

The City’s sixth star, which is the Open Government and Compliance star, recognizes Round Rock’s exemplary efforts in creating transparency around government decisions. The program includes standards for making governing body decisions easily accessible through live streamed meetings, minutes, agendas and more, so that the public has unrestricted access to decision-making processes, meeting records and financial reports.

“Round Rock has shown a continued commitment to providing taxpayers with a clear and meaningful analysis of its financial data. This effort achieves the goals set by my office’s Transparency Stars program,” Hegar said. “I am pleased to recognize Round Rock for going above and beyond in its transparency efforts and being awarded for receiving the Open Government and Compliance Transparency Star.”

The Transparency Stars program recognizes local governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online. The Comptroller’s office launched the Transparency Stars program in March 2016 to recognize cities, counties and school districts making important strides to greater government transparency.

Below are webpages with information on the City’s six areas of transparency efforts:

Keeping in line with the City’s continued commitment to transparency, information on City Council, Boards and Commissions, public meeting dates, agendas and minutes, open records requests, and more can be found on the City’s website.
