City and Round Rock Preservation celebrate Stagecoach Inn rehabilitation

The City of Round Rock and nonprofit Round Rock Preservation celebrated the completion of the Old Stagecoach Inn’s restoration on October 19, 2024.

In 2018 the 170-year old Stagecoach Inn was relocated to Chisholm Crossing Park to make way for road safety improvements on RM 620. After being moved it was mothballed for several years while a restoration plan was developed, funding raised, and most of the construction for the surrounding park was completed. The restoration, funded by a combination of private donations and City hotel occupancy tax funds, has now been completed through the efforts of the City of Round Rock, the advocacy of nonprofit Round Rock Preservation.

The celebration included a welcome from Mayor Craig Morgan and ribbon-cutting by the Mayor and Council. Round Rock Preservation founder Shirley Marquardt and current President Judy Anderson thanked donors to the project and spoke about community advocacy. A display of engraved bricks that were part of a restoration fundraiser were revealed. Phebe Davol, who had lived at the Inn as a child, Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins, and Planner Kerstin Harding also spoke. Evelyn Billington played guitar, volunteers from the Williamson Museum portrayed persons from 1850s Round Rock, and Boy Scout Troop 365 assisted the presentation and tour of the Inn.
